Are you ready for your dream eyebrows but still have a few questions?
Here are the answers to the most commonly asked questions, my recommendations and other information!
1. Are you certified?
Yes! I am certified as a microblading technician and I am currently taking courses to become certified in Tattooing.
2. What is Microblading?
It is a semi-permanent makeup. Microblading is a technique where we use a handheld tool to create the natural feathering of hair-like strokes directly on the skin’s surface. Microblading creates the background and fills in the areas of the eyebrows that look empty so that a full and complete look is accomplished. Unlike a traditional eyebrow tattoo, eyebrow Microblading does not leave a flat, dull and fake look that tattoos leave behind and is a much safer treatment. The Microblading method can fill in sparse brows or create an entire brow, which makes it the perfect procedure for Men and Women.
3. What is Ombre?
Instead of creating hair strokes for the eyebrow, like with Microblading, this technique is natural shading with a gradient effect from the beginning of the brow to the end of the brow. Starting from light and fading to dark. To give your brows the sharp yet natural look. This technique is best for those who like a more makeup done look!
4. How long does it last?
It will last as long as it’s maintained. Untouched, the ink will last up to 4 years. Your microbladed brows may require a touch up anywhere from 18-24 months from the original procedure. The avereage is 1 year before a touch up is needed. For Ombre brows they can last anywhere from 18-36 months before a touch up is needed. The average is two years. Its recommended to get touch ups as needed to maintain your dream brows!
5. Will I need a touch up?
Most likely you will need a touch up within 4-8 weeks from your initial procedure. Within a week of your first procedure the color will fade significantly and over the next 4-8 weeks the color can continue to fade as much as 50%. This is considered an extremely positive occurrence as it allows you time to reflect on your shape and color. After this period your follow-up appointment is carried out. At this point any changes you would like to make are discussed. It is also recommended to get regular touch ups yearly to maintain your gorgeous new eyebrows!
6. Does it hurt?
Everyone has a different level of sensitivity so a topical anesthetic is applied during the treatment to alleviate any sensation or discomfort. Some clients naturally feel one brow sorer than the other. You will hear a scratch noise/ sensation throughout.
Music is usually played during the procedure, however feel free to bring your own ear phones and music to distract you.
7. Is it safe?
Yes! Absolutely. All instruments are sterilized. Disposable, single use needles and supplies are used during the process. All treatment areas are disinfected in between each client.
8. Will I be swollen?
You may swell slightly, however this dissipates over the course of an hour. Not everyone experiences swelling. You may have slightly red skin around your eyebrows, but this would last no more than 1 hour.
9. How long does it take?
The procedure takes roughly about 3 hours, sometimes more or sometimes less. Please allow a solid 4-hour window for your appointment. I likely won’t need that much time, but this isn’t something we want to rush.
10. Do I need to take the day off from work?
No, you don't! There’s no downtime associated with the treatment. Redness and swelling will dissipate within an hour after. Your eyebrows will appear darker initially, but not so dark that you will be prevented from your daily life!
11. What is the process like?
Microblading is a two-step treatment, consisting of an initial procedure and then a touch up procedure, 4 to 8 weeks after. We will begin with taking your before photos, we will discuss your likes and dislikes about your current eyebrows and what you would like them to look like. We will talk about desired shape and technique options. Then I will draw the brow design in pencil so you get an idea of shape and form. Once we have agreed on a final shape (ultimately it is your decision, but I will always voice my opinion on what I think suits you aesthetically), then we will decide on the ink color best suited for your eyebrows. During the healing process, it's normal to experience some pigment loss. This is why we have the touch up appointment in place.
*Please note that no ones face is totally symmetrical and you will need to be realistic with your expectations. There is a saying that eyebrows are sisters not identical twins. Also trying to match a photo of your favorite celebrities' eyebrows isn't best if your face shape is nothing like theirs.
12. How long does it take to heal?
Healing time varies from individual to individual. Usually, it takes about a week to ten days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. Your skin will be considered healed after that happens. During the next few weeks the pigment will take some time to settle into the skin. A good month should pass before I consider the process complete. Then you will return for your touch up appointment!
13. What CAN'T I do after the procedure?
During the healing process I advise you to keep the skin clean and dry. That means no swimming, sweating or otherwise getting the area wet. Avoid any facial spa treatments, saunas and hot tubs during this time. Its important to refrain from tanning or prolonged sun exposure during the healing process. Please no picking, peeling, scratching or rubbing of the eyebrows, this may result in a loss of color and scarring. You can still wash your hair and face, just please avoid letting the eyebrow area from getting wet. I will provide eyebrow shields in your home care kit so you don't get them wet during the shower. Once your brows are completely healed up, you treat them as your own.
14. How do I prolong the life of my new eyebrows?
Wearing a daily facial sunscreen is recommended to keep your beautiful new brows looking perfect longer! It is lso recommended to avoid abrasive facial treatments in the brow area.
15. Do you have to shave off my own eyebrows?
No, absolutely not! Every attempt is made to retain all natural hair and integrate it into the design of the permanent eyebrows. In some cases, where shaping of the natural brow is required, a few hairs here and there may need to be removed to create a clean and aesthetically pleasing result.
16. I already have permanent makeup and want to change the shape. Can you help?
Yes, changes to your old design can be made as long as you provide me a picture of your current eyebrows so I can see how faded they are. If they are to a point where new pigment can be placed over the old work we can proceed with the treatment!
17. Is it true that some clients just do not retain pigment even after a few visits. Could this happen?
Yes it's true! While rare, this can happen.
A third appointment is often set up so the client has the opportunity to return and I get the chance to review the work and sort out any (if any) tweaks that might need to be done. Often times clients will cancel this third appointment as all is usually well, however there are the occasional few that may need one or two extra strokes to finish off the look. Some clients skin may react to the trauma of the tattooing, and the skin may try to push out the foreign body of pigment by producing an extreme scab, so they eventually fall off taking all the pigment with it. There is a condition called Pigment Allergy (PPD Allergy, a condition known by dermatologists) or Auto Immune disease symptoms (the client may not even be aware of it). The skin would have over reacted and become super sensitive to the pigment and reject it at any cost.
18. How many options are there for eyebrow pigment (color)?
I supply 9 main colors, I can blend several to achieve even more shades to suit the client. ALL clients who have the procedure done will be conscious that their eyebrows are very obvious. However, please bear in mind the skin has been broken to allow the pigment settle and healing has yet to take place. If you currently pencil in your eyebrows I ask that you bring that product with you to your appointment. In doing so I can best match the pigment to the desired HEALED RESULT. Which emerges after the crusts naturally fall off and the skin gently exfoliates naturally itself to reveal the new brow. Clients who are used to having no eyebrows for a long time, can find this few weeks challenging. I advise clients who have no brows to start wearing pencil or brow shading for some time before the process so they get used to having a brow!
19. Can you guarantee your work?
Unfortunately, I can't. How the skin will react is different for everyone and many factors are to be taken into consideration. Such as skin type, age, scarring, diet, stress levels, facial products used, etc. These factors all play a key role in how the pigment will hold, which is why it is important to know that more than one touch up may be required.
I can guarantee that your face is important to me and that I will act in accordance with my experience and expertise to give you my absolute best. I can guarantee that I will strive to make you gratified and content every time. But there are no guarantees in this industry. Please think long and hard before you decide to go for it.
20. What if I don't like it?
Microblading is considered to be semi-permanent makeup. The procedure does allow flexibility for the color or shape to some extent. I will work closely with you to ensure that you are satisfied with the proposed mapping of your new brows before we begin the procedure. I will allow you to have as much control over the procedure as possible, so there’s very little room for error.
